Made Free

One of my favorite passages in the Bible is John 8:32, “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” Jesus is talking to a group of Jews who have been following him and have come to believe that Jesus is the messiah. Jesus tells them that their belief will make them free. However, the Jews’ retort, made from misunderstanding Jesus’ words, is that they were born free and have never been slaves. Jesus is quick to explain that slavery takes many forms. Humanity is in slavery to sin! Sin binds us to separation from God. Jesus explains that we can truly experience freedom to be with God when we are freed from sin.

I believe in this passage! I have this verse displayed on the rear window of my truck! And I think that the Episcopal Church is the way to get to know the Son (Jesus)! I pray you feel the same way and invite your friends and family to join us for worship and fellowship.

Martin Luther King Jr. writes, “By opening our lives to God in Christ, we become new creatures. This experience, which Jesus spoke of as the new birth, is essential if we are to be transformed nonconformists…Only through an inner spiritual transformation do we gain the strength to fight vigorously the evils of the world in a humble and loving spirit.”[1]

For Christians, to be free from sin allows us to be new creations. Jesus offers freedom through belief. If we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, we are set free from sin and made a new creation as adopted sons and daughters of God. As sons and daughters, we gain an inheritance of life. So, to know the Truth (Jesus) will make us free from sin and sons and daughters of God. I pray that you know the Truth, and are made free…
